Steps to Answering Multiple-Choice Questions


  1. First, read the multiple-choice questions.
  2. Then read the text closely and carefully, looking for answers to the questions. 
  3. Ask yourself what the title suggests about the topic. 
  4. While reading, underline key words. Take notes in the margin to help you remember important details. 
  5. When finished, summarize what you read in one sentence.

  1. The first questions generally address the beginning of the reading and alert readers to important ideas or details.

      • The questions in a fictional piece may ask about the setting or atmosphere, which could provide clues to later events.

  2. The middle questions address specific elements of the selection, such as?

      • details about character motivation, feelings, behaviour

  3. The last questions often require the consideration of the reading selection as a whole and may be asked about?
