In this lesson, you will examine the characters in your chosen novel and complete a character profile for one of them.

- A protagonist is the main character who is central to all the activity in the story. Consider what motivates the main character.
- An antagonist is the main character or force which opposes the main character
- Dynamic characters undergo significant changes in a story.
- Static characters do not change.
Characterization is the process that authors use to make the character seem "alive" to readers, is developed as the story progresses.
Characters have a combination of traits, suggested in their reaction to problems, to behavior, motives, and emotions. Characters are developed through their appearance, words, actions, thoughts, and the words and thoughts of other characters.
