5.4 Lesson: Style and Voice
Fresh Perspectives |
Assignment |
Both
style and
voice give creative writing a fresh perspective. They set one artist apart from all of the other artists in the world. Style is significant in media such as film, music, and literature. Consider the following versions of O Canada which feature unique styles.
Edmonton Oilers Fans sing "O Canada"
"O Canada" by Daylight for Deadeyes
Alanis Morissette "O Canada"
The lyrics of a song don't change; however, the singer's tone, emphasis of certain notes, tempo, and the background music can change the song significantly. Similarly, a writer establishes style β with words. The plot, characters, and theme of a story are developed through word choice, dialogue, sentence structure, imagery, literary devices, and point of view.
