Rationale

As perspectives on personal identity continue to evolve, so do understandings of ideologies and what it means to be a member of a collective community, state, and nation. Democratic and capitalist societies are founded upon the key values of individualism and liberalism. Understanding the significance of ideology contributes to an appreciation and awareness of the interrelationships among identity, individualism, collectivism, and citizenship.

Social 30-2 Diploma Exam

Social Studies 30-1 or 30-2 is required for high school graduation. To receive credit for this course, you must write a Provincial Diploma Exam on a date scheduled by the government in an approved writing center. You must register to write this exam well in advance. The Provincial Diploma Exam is worth 30% of your final grade. Your coursework in this course should prepare you for the Diploma Exam. Please contact your teacher if you have any questions.

This Social 30-2 course has been developed to help you no only successfully complete the course, but to also successfully complete the diploma exam. Multiple choice questions in the self-quizzes, unit reviews, and the Midterm and Final Exams have been created to give you exposure to similar questions in the Diploma Exam. As well, the written assignments in the units and in the Midterm and Final Exams have been designed to prepare you for the written portion of the Diploma Exam. On the Midterm and Final Exams there are 25 multiple choice questions, a source-based question, a citizens question and a terminology written response. It is expected that you will respond to written responses using multiple paragraphs.
