You may choose to write your Final Exam in either the print or on line version (they are the same exam). Indicate which format of the exam that you prefer to your teacher.

• You may write the Final exam only after you have completed all the course work in Units 5 to 8. All assignments, discussions and unit review quizzes must be completed and graded before the exam is released.
• If your score on the Final Exam is less than 40%, you must write the Final Exam Appeal. if you score less than 40% on the Final Exam Appeal, this score becomes your mark for Units 5-8.
• The Final exam is worth 20% of your final mark.
• The Final exam consists of 25 multiple choice and 3 paragraph style written response questions.
• The Final exam may be online or print.
  
• The Final Exam must be completed before writing the Diploma Exam. This rule may be waived in consultation with your teacher.
  
• Exams must be written under the supervision of an approved supervisor. Contact your teacher.

Part A: Multiple-Choice Questions

• 25 multiple-choice questions worth 50% of the exam
• Computer marked

Part B: Written Response

• Three written-response assignments (a source based question, a citizens question, and a terminology written response) worth 50% of the exam
  
• Written responses are expected to be multi-paragraph responses.

Assignment I Identifying Concepts 
Value: 10% of exam mark

Students will respond to an assigned task in multiple paragraph response by demonstrating understanding of Social Studies

Assignment II Analyzing Sources  
Value: 20% of exam mark

Students will interpret each of three sources presented and use details from these sources and their understanding of Social Studies to defend a position. Using multiple paragraph response format.

Assignment III Perspectives on Issues
Value: 20% of exam mark

Students will explore an issue and analyze two to four points of view on the issue that are presented. Students will construct multi paragraph responses that explain and support their points of view on the issue.

Appeal Exam

If you wish to improve their mark on the Final Exam, an appeal exam is available. The appeal exam has the same format of 25 multiple choice questions and three written response questions. However the questions will be different. The higher of the two marks (on Final Exam or Final Exam Appeal) will be used.

Help Writing Multiple Choice and Written Response Questions

This Social 30-2 course has been developed to help students complete the course successfully as well as complete the Diploma Exam successfully.

• Multiple-choice items in the self-quizzes, unit reviews, and Exam 1 have been constructed to give students exposure to questions similar to those in the Diploma Exam.

• Written assignments in the units and in Exam 1 have also been designed to prepare students for the written portion of the Diploma Exam. There is a source based question, terminology pick response and a citizens with an issue question.
