Lesson 2Activity 3: Closing Moments

You have looked at identity in terms of memories growing up and when celebrating special events, but there are also ways to consider and pay tribute to a loved one's identity when someone dies. An obituary and a eulogy are the two most common forms of communication for this purpose.

An obituary is a notice of a person's death that appears in the newspaper and sometimes on the radio or the Internet. It might include details about where the person was born, major events in the person's life, information about the person's family, and information about the burial or funeral plans for the person.

A eulogy is a speech given at a funeral in honour of the person who has died. It may be a personal remembrance of the person, or it may contain similar information to an obituary.
