Lesson 12:

Communication and Correctness


Although you have been creating texts throughout the course so far, in this lesson, you will review some of the important concepts of matters of correctness. You will review the parts of speech, learn about the elements of a complete sentence, and consider various forms of sentence structure. As well, this lesson reviews the basic elements of punctuation and will help you to apply these concepts when you work on writing interesting sentences. You will look at the punctuation you can use at the end of sentences as well as within sentences. You will also review the use of quotation marks.

In this lesson, you will:

  • review the following parts of speech: noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, and adverb
  • review the basic structure of sentences
  • review the various types of sentences
  • review the various types of end punctuation
  • review some types of punctuation that can be used within sentences to allow for various sentence types
  • review the use of quotation marks when writing dialogue as well as some other uses
