Lesson 13Activity 1:

Choosing a Topic

Often, students begin a research project in response to a topic the teacher assigns. The topic you will be researching for the next few lessons is a CAREER that is in an area of interest to you.

You do not need to know much about a subject to use it as your topic, but choosing one you are totally unfamiliar with could be a mistake. For your project, you will choose a career that you are interested in and know a little bit about.

Can you think of one now?

You have been given the general topic of careers. Think about how you might answer these three questions:

What career do you want to research?

What do you already know about your topic?

What do you think you need to know more about?

As stated, your career search will cover several lessons. Your final report may be presented in a word document, but you will most likely be making notes using pen and paper.

No one is happy when their hard work gets lost, so before you begin to research your career choice, decide on a method to keep your information safe. You may wish to store this information in a binder, a file folder, in a file on your computer, or some other spot so you can find it when you need to.
