Theme 4: Introduction
Theme 4: The World of Work
As you approach the end of your high school career, you will begin to think about working full-time and on a permanent basis. You may continue with your studies and work part-time, or you may enter the workforce as a full-time worker. Whatever you decide
to do, you will have to go through some formal steps to secure a new job.
In this theme, you will work on creating (or, perhaps, updating) your résumé and cover letter. As well, you will look at your values, attitudes, interests, skills, and abilities as you think about a career that you are interested in. You will also look at lifestyle choices and career possibilities. You will continue to work on your career portfolio (or start one if you have not done so already). After you think about a job that you would be interested in doing, you will learn how to find available jobs and how to prepare for the interview. Finally, you will learn about the importance of workplace communication and how to keep the job that you have worked so hard to get!
