The Santa Maria in West Edmonton Mall is a large-scale replica - meaning that it is the same size as the real thing.
You can put the following search term "pics of Santa Maria ship in West Edmonton Mall" into Google to see images of the ship.
When most people see the ship, they are surprised at how small it is. Can you imagine spending weeks and weeks on such a ship with 38 people aboard?
Four of the crew members of the Santa Maria were convicts who were offered amnesty if they agreed to go. What does such an offer tell you about people's ideas about the safety of the trip?
