Have you thought about this? In what direction were the people of Spain looking? How would looking in a specific direction influence their religion?

Today, Spain is a Christian country as it was during the Renaissance and the Age of Exploration. However, this was not always so. 

You can see on the map in Figure 1.1 that Spain was once part of the Islamic Empire. Click on the plus sign (+) to enlarge the image.
