Malinche was a young woman who acted as an interpreter for Cortes as he made his way through Mexico conquering some groups and making alliances with others. Having Malinche allowed Cortes to communicate easily with Indigenous peoples he met.

Using Malinche was one of many of Cortes’ strategies to defeat the Aztecs and other Indigenous peoples.

The Spanish invasion of the Aztecs caused two groups that had many similarities but many more differences to meet. The worldview held by each group very much affected how they approached one another.
