Chapter 11 Introduction

How does cultural contact between two societies affect their identities and worldviews?

The worldviews of both the Aztecs and the Spanish changed because of the conquest. Each group had to adapt its worldview because of ongoing contact.

A fusion of the two cultures developed gradually over time. As you see in Figure 11.1, there are places in Mexico where one can see the ruins of the Aztec era, the Spanish influence, and modern views in one place.

The effect of this intercultural contact is the theme of Chapter 11.
