The soldiers who came with Cortes had been promised riches that they did not receive. A new way of life was necessary if Cortes was going to keep these men in New Spain.
Cortes
found ways to encourage Spanish men to stay and settle in Mexico, and
the Spanish colonies thrived. Spanish men married Indigenous women, new
families were formed, and gradually a new Mexico was born.
Today, Mexico’s culture is a mix of Indigenous, Mestizo, and Spanish traditions. Does Canada have a similar mix of cultures in our country?
Modern Mexico is very different now from what it was during the days of the Aztec Empire. The blending of cultures has transformed the nation, making it a vibrant and interesting place.
