The historical rulers of Japan were the shoguns. These were military rulers during the Edo period in Japan.

Each had a strong council of
advisors, officials, and administrators that was called a shogunate. The
soldiers that supported the shoguns were the samurai warriors.
There are many stories of the samurai. A very popular story is that of the 47 Ronin.
