Chapter 16 Assessment
In Chapter 16, you learned about three mottos (slogans) that guided Japan's development and identity: "Civilization and Enlightenment", "Western science, Japanese essence" and "Wealthy Country, Strong Army".
For each of these mottos (slogans), you must do the following:
- identify some of the changes that occurred in Japan as a result of the motto (slogan)
- explain why the changes occurred
- explain whether the changes that occurred were positive or negative (or both!) for Japanese society
Be sure to provide specific details in your explanations.
Choose one of the following formats to present your information.
- composition
- PowerPoint presentation (Text is required.)
- brochure (Text is required.)
- speech (Use the
Vocaroo website to record your speech.)
Be sure you have included the following in your final product.
- identified changes that occurred in Japan for each of the three mottos/slogans
- explained why the changed occurred
- explained whether the changes that occurred under each motto/slogan were positive, negative, or both
- provided specific details in your explanations
