Lesson 1 — Activity 2: All about YOU
Communication involves interaction. That means it takes place between two or more people. It is much easier for us to communicate well with others when we feel comfortable with them. For example, we might feel shy or nervous speaking to someone for the
first time, but we would feel more comfortable calling a friend.

We can help ourselves feel relaxed when communicating with others if we take some time to get to know them. We can do this by sharing information about ourselves (like you did in the previous activity) and by asking questions to learn more about the people
around us. This also helps the people we are with to feel more comfortable with us. When we ask them about themselves, they feel more comfortable because they can talk about themselves.
Here are some ideas of topics that you could use when asking someone questions to learn more about them:
-
Work: what type of job do they do
- Family: their parents, brothers, sisters, etc.
-
School: where they went to school and what their favourite subjects were
-
Travel: do they like to travel and where is the best place they have been
- Hobbies: things they like to do in their spare time
