So far in this lesson, you have learned that the way we present our message affects how clearly we are able to communicate. We can choose a passive, aggressive, or assertive voice and each affects communication differently.
Body language is another element of communication related to the way we present our message. It includes the non-verbal behaviours we display while speaking and listening:

- gestures — the movements we make
- facial expressions — the way our attitude shows on our faces
- posture — the way we stand or sit
- dress and grooming — the way we present ourselves
We all know people who are very animated or active when they speak. There are people who use their hands to help describe what they are talking about and people who are very calm and quiet when speaking. Types of body language can be very effective in
different situations. However, inappropriate body language can make communication very difficult and awkward. We need to think about our non-verbal behaviour and whether or not it supports the message we are sending.
