                        Lesson 5 — Activity 1:
      Representing

      through Varied Forms

Representing refers to using visual means (sometimes combined with verbal messages) to communicate ideas. There are many different ways in which we can represent our ideas without speaking or writing. These different means can be more effective than the
traditional ways we communicate, depending on the context of the communication.

There are many ways of representing information that we are familiar with, including the following:

  - diagrams
- posters
- charts
- signs
- illustrations
- photographs
- paintings
- videos
- mimes
- dramas
- sculptures
- collages
- symbols
- cartoons
It can be helpful to communicate through representing and viewing. For many people, it is easier to get information visually than by reading, writing, or speaking.

Often the purpose of representation is to entertain, but we can also use representation for other common purposes of communication, such as to persuade, to inform, or to express an opinion.
