Lesson 7 Activity 1:

Learning about Literature and the Media

Literature and media cover a vast range of materials that we are exposed to everyday in the classroom, at home, at work, and everywhere we go.

Literature usually refers to short stories, novels, and poems, although we sometimes also classify essays and other works as literature. The term literature can be used to describe anything that is in print.

Media includes literature and can actually be used to describe all of the forms of communication that exist! We usually think of media as television or movies, digital music files (e.g., mp3 files), webpages, social media, the radio, magazines, and newspapers. These forms of information are sometimes referred to as mass media because they are available to many people in many places.
