Lesson 18 Activity 2: Examples of Résumés

Whether you choose to create a chronological, functional, or combination résumé, the information is basically the same. The different types of résumés present the information in different ways. In this activity, you will see how the information is organized in the different résumé styles.

The chronological résumé includes two key elements:

  1. work experience — lists past work experience in chronological order from most recent to least recent
  2. personal information — gives information about you and reflects your flexibility for the job description you are applying for

A functional résumé includes two key elements:

  1. a career objective — clearly describes the type of work you are seeking and your most relevant qualification(s) — this will help you select and organize the skills you want to emphasize
  2. a list of key skills or functions — highlights three to six skills that reflect the job you're applying for: list the skills that are the most marketable first, and support each skill with an example of how you used it in a work, school, or volunteer situation

A combination résumé includes two key elements:

  1. a career objective — clearly describes the type of work you are seeking and your most relevant qualification(s) — this will help you select and organize the skills you want to emphasize
  2. a list of key skills and work experience — highlights three to six skills that reflect the job you are applying for: list the work experiences that are most marketable first, and support each skill with an example of how you used it in a work, school, or volunteer situation
