3.7 ~MASU Verbs

Here are some commonly used verbs in their ~MASU form.

Before you press on the "+" to look at the English, see if you can break down the sentences and find the subjects, the objects, the verbs and the verb stems!

She writes a letter. 
Daisuke-san listens to music.
He does a job.  /  He works.
Megumi-san reads a book/books.
Kiyono-san's father watches television.
nihongo = Japanese

tegami = letter

ongaku = music

shigoto =  work/job

keeki = cake

ocha = green tea

terebi = television

Since the ~MASU form can mean a repeated, habitual action, a present action or a future action, you will have to look at the entire context to determine which meaning the ~MASU form has.

Like "DESU," the "SU" of "~MASU" is pronounced with a very soft "u."
