Writing 5.2 Small ใค

Remember when we talked about the double consonants in Romaji and how they represent a brief pause as you are pronouncing the words?

Example:  mittsu, yottsu, kippu

When you write in Hiragana, you use a small (ใกใ„ใ•ใ„) ใค to represent the pause.  You do NOT read it as the regular ใค!

Example:  ใฟใฃใค, ใ‚ˆใฃใค, ใใฃใท

When you are writing Hiragana by hand, you just have to make your small ใค half the size of your regular Hiragana characters.

If you are typing, you simply have to type out the double consonant and then the small ใค will appear.

Try reading these words aloud.  Click the "+" to see if you read the characters correctly!

Another place to buy food is at a market.  Specialty stores open up onto a street that has a covered roof (left).

You can find lots of delicious ingredients to cook with or you can find traditionally prepared dishes like the pickled vegetables (upper right) or already cooked side dishes to eat with rice (lower right).
