Writing 5.3 Combination Sounds

Now you know how to read and write sounds that start with G, Z, D, B and P.

But what about those sounds that are in words like in HYAKU (η™Ύ) and TABEMASHOU?

Again!

Good for you for noticing!

As you can see, the initial consonant sound (k, s, c, n, h, m and r)  combines with the γ‚„γ€γ‚†γ€γ‚ˆ characters.

Note that the γ‚„γ€γ‚†γ€γ‚ˆ characters are half-size, just like the small ぀.

The same can be done with the Hiragana characters with diacritics (g, j, b, p).

The γ‚„γ€γ‚†γ€γ‚ˆ are still smaller than the regular size characters and that's how you will know that two characters create a combined sound and not two separate sounds.

Combined (small γ‚„): きょう

Not combinedγ€€(characters all the same size):  γγ‚ˆγ†
