7.2 Expressing Likes


すきです。



When you want to talk about something that you like, use the structure [NOUN] + が + すきです。

The particle が has many usages and one is to mark the subject of a sentence.  It is also always used with すきです. 

すき means "like."

だいすきです。
If you want to make sure people understand just how much you like something, add だい in front of すきです.

This means that you like something very much or you love it.

The Kanji for だい is ε€§ which literally means "big."  So you can think of the amount that you like something as being big!

いけばんすきです。
What if something is your absolute favourite?

Then you add いけばん in front of すきです.

The Kanji for いけばん is δΈ€η•ͺ.  You already know the Kanji for いけ means "one."  The ばん means "number."  So when you use いけばんすきです, that means that's the number one thing you like!
