A bylaw is a law made by a local government that applies only in that community.

6.  How is a bylaw made?

Bylaws are introduced by a councillor at a council meeting and voted on by the local council.

7.  Are bylaws made by consensus?

Bylaws are not made by consensus, but by voting.

8.  Why do we have local government as well as the Canadian government?

We have local governments because local people know their communities best, and chances to participate are provided by having local governments.
