Targets

At the end of this Unit you should be able to answer the following questions

1.2 What causes rain, hail, sleet, and snow?

1.3 How can weather be measured?

1.4 What weather clues do the clouds and the Sun give us?

1.5 How can we predict and prepare ourselves for bad weather?

Unlike humans, many animals have thick fur that allows them to survive in very cold temperatures.

Many animals have "built in" protection from harsh winter weather. They have thick layers of fur that keep them warm even when the temperatures are very cold. Humans are not so lucky! Humans have to use our brains and technology to survive harsh weather. Using what we know about weather systems, we can predict the weather and prepare for it.

In the first four sections of this unit, you have learned much about the elements of weather. You have learned about air movement, various kinds of precipitation, measuring weather elements, identification of clouds, and the important role of the Sun in producing weather. In the next activity, you will put that information together in an effort to prepare yourself for the weather.
