This lesson is about how people can both cause problems and create solutions in our wetlands.  You will learn how the actions of people, both deliberate and non-deliberate, have caused great change and sometimes endangered and sometimes benefited our wetlands, including plant and animal life.

As you work with the following resources, focus on these questions:

  • What human changes in land use in the past caused problems for wetlands?
  • Why did people do things that caused so much damage?
  • Does this continue today?
  • How do human actions benefit wetlands?
  • What are other issues that involve wetlands?
