Discover - How do flowering plants propagate?

What does propagate mean?  To propogate, means to reproduce. When flowering plants reproduce, more plants are produced the same as their parent-plants.  They propagate.  We can help them reproduce by planting seeds, cuttings, bulbs, and runners—depending upon the type of plant.

Food  Connection

Have you eaten any flowers lately?  Did you know that many flowers are edible?  Some are even considered to be very special – delicacies.  Several common flowers that are edible can be found easily.  For example, …dandelions!

Dandelion flowers are sweetest when they are picked young.  They have a sweet, honey-like flavour and are good raw (in a salad) or steamed (as a cooked vegetable).  Some people make dandelion flowers into wine!  When serving a rice dish, some people use dandelion petals like confetti over the rice.

Check the What’s Cooking website; it provides information on how to choose edible flowers and information about them.
