Discover - Recyclable Plastic

Plastic is used in many kinds of packaging because it is so versatile.  That means that it can have many uses.



Plastic can be moulded into any shape, it is waterproof, and it can be stiff and strong or soft and flimsy.

Various kinds of plastic can be recycled and reused and some is even biodegradable.

On many plastic products you will see a recycling symbol. This symbol has a numberin it that tells what kind of plastic it is and how it is recycled.In this activity, you will compare various kinds of plastic packaging found in and around your home.

Instructions

  1. Go to the Wonderville plastic activity, In Search of Recyclable Plastic.

  2. Download the chart and print it.

  3. Look around your home and garage to find various kinds of plastic packaging.

  4. Complete the chart with the examples you find.  Find examples of each kind of plastic.

  5. Save a copy of the completed chart in your Waste Notebook.


Challenge!

Use the information you collected for the activity to construct a bar graph showing the amounts of the various kinds of plastic packaging found in your home.
