Unit E: Space Exploration Overview

Learning Targets

Unit Overview

Humans have always been driven by curiosity and fed by an innate need to explore.

The pursuit of the unknown is alluring. William Shatner, captain of the Starship Enterprise, opened every episode of Star Trek with these words: “Space: the final frontier…to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.”  Star Trek was a television show that was science fiction but now is credited and honoured for its creativity and forethought.

Today, scientists live and work on the International Space Station.  Flight companies are trying to organize space flights, and auditions are being held to become one of the first explorers to live on Mars. Space travel is no longer a dream; it is quickly becoming a reality.  Are you ready for what it will bring?
