In Chapter 11, you learned the number of ways to arrange or choose items can be determined using the fundamental counting principle, permutations, or combinations. In many instances, there can be more than one way to count arrangements or selections. The fundamental counting principle can be used by itself or along with either permutations or combinations to determine the number of ways to arrange or select certain items.

You also learned about Pascal’s triangle. Interpreted as rows of combinations, Pascal’s triangle can be used to help solve pathways problems and expand binomials.
