Unit 6 is about Canada’s Cordillera Region. As with the other regions, you will learn about its geography, climate, natural resources, history, and people.

- Explain how natural resources and the physical geography of the Cordillera region determine the establishment of communities
- Tell about Aboriginal cultures and ways of life in the Cordillera region
- Tell about the North West Mounted Police and its effect on settlement and development of western Canada
- Provide information about the ways of life of European immigrants
- Provide information about the ways of life of non-European immigrants
- Discuss changes in the Cordillera region over time and the reasons for those changes
- Understand how natural resources are used, exchanged, and conserved in this region
- Tell about Chinese immigrants (railway workers) and how they contributed to the development of Canada
- Tell about immigrants from India and how they contributed diversity in Canada
Introduction
Do you know some Spanish words? Perhaps you know cordilla, which means a chain of mountains. In North America, the Cordillera Region has several chains of mountains that include our majestic Rocky Mountains.
