  1. How did the United Nations Peacekeepers begin?
      • The United Nations Peacekeepers began when a crisis occurred in Egypt.  The president of Egypt took control of the Suez Canal, and Britain and France threatened war to regain control.  A new force of peacekeeping soldiers was provided by the United Nations to go there and keep the peace without taking sides.
  2. What important international prize did Lester B. Pearson win for proposing the United Nations Peacekeepers?
      • Lester B. Pearson won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work.
  3. How do the peacekeepers influence our sense of Canadian identity?
      • The Peacekeepers influence our sense of identity because Canadians are proud that their soldiers often help keep the peace instead of waging war.  They are also proud that a Canadian proposed the idea.
