yellow-bellied sapsucker
The yellow-bellied sapsucker is a beautiful bird that depends on Canadian forests. This small woodpecker uses its strong beak to make holes in trees to harvest sap. As saps oozes from the holes, the sapsucker returns to eat itβas well as any insects attracted to the sap.
The sapsucker is only one bird species that depends on trees. As you complete your studies in this section, think about the many organisms that live in and are dependent upon the forest. Also, consider how the trees of the forest are dependent upon other organisms.
