1.6 The Verb Ser

You have already been using the verb ser, now we need to learn all of the forms so we can make descriptive sentences.
The verb ser is translated as to be in English.  Of course, in both Spanish and English, we change the forms of verbs to use them in sentences.
We change them from the infinitive, or base form. The different forms are called conjugations. Take a look at the conjugation of ser below.
infinitive
In English, an infinitive is a two-word verb form; the first word is always "to". Some examples are: to run, to learn, to have.
conjugation
A verb conjugation is when you change the verb according to the person performing the action. For example: I run, She runs.

Spanish English
Yo soy / Soy  I am
Tú eres / Eres  You are (familiar/informal)
Él, Ella, Usted es / Es He is, She is, You are (formal, polite)

We use ser to describe someone or something.

¡OJO! Make sure you know the different forms (conjugations) of ser.  We will start with the first 3.
