The verb estar is used to express how you feel and where something is located. Let's review the singular conjugations for estar:

Yo estoy	I am	Yo estoy cansado.
Tú estás	You are (informal)	Tú estás triste.
Usted está	You are (formal)	Usted está en la escuela.
Él/Ella está	He/She is	Él/Ella está en Boston.

In this lesson, you will use estar to say where objects are located around the house.

Examples

1. La mesa está en la sala. 
2. El sofá está en la sala familiar. 
3. La silla está en el patio. 
4. La lámpara está en la sala. 

Let's review the plural conjugations for estar:

Nosotros(as) estamos	We are	Nosotros estamos emocionados.
Vosotros(as) estáis	You are (plural)	Vosotros estáis en la clase.
Ustedes están	You are (plural)	Ustedes están enojados.
Ellos/Ellas están	They are	Ellos/Ellas están en la Florida.

Hay means "there is" and "there are". 

It can be followed by a singular or plural noun. We put no in front of hay to make it negative:  No hay.... .

1. Hay dos mesas en la sala. 
     → There are two tables in the living room.
2. Hay un patio grande. 
     → There is a big patio.
3. No hay muchos estudiantes. 
     → There are not many students.
4. No hay un patio en mi casa. 
     → There is not a patio in my house.
5. Hay un televisor en la cocina. 
     → There is a television in the kitchen.

Hay is also used with question words.

1. ¿Qué hay en la sala familiar? 
     → What is there in the family room?
2. ¿Cuántas mesas hay en la sala familiar? 
     → How many tables are there in the family room?
