4.5 El Futuro:   Ir + a + Infinitive


Now that you know the verb ir, we want you to see something else that you can do with the verb.

Remember that we use the verb ir to talk about where we're going, normally ir is followed by a - we go to a place.
         ~ Vamos a las clases en la mañana.

We also use the verb ir to talk about the future - as in things you are going to do.
          ~ Vamos a leer mucho en clase  mañana.

To talk about what you are going to do in the future - es fácil:
You continue to add the little word "a" and then an infinitive verb to say what you are going to do.

  Here are some rules to follow when you use
  Here is the formula or pattern - there are 3 parts:  ir  + a  + infinitive

                         IR  +  A  +  INFINITIVE





Rule 1

Use ir + a + infinitive to say what you are going to do.
Remember, an infinitive is the basic form (not conjugated) of the verb;  por ejemplo -  hablar, trabajar, comer, vivir etc.

Examples

Yo voy a leer  → I 'm going to read.

Tú vas a escribir  → You 're going to write.

Ella va a estudiar  → She is going to study.


Rule 2

Add more information after the infinitive to add details about what you are saying.

Examples

Ella va a estudiar matemáticas  → She is going to study math.

Nosotros vamos a comer pizza  → We are going to eat pizza.

Ellas van a escuchar a la maestra  → They are going to listen to the teacher.


Rule 3

Put the word no in front of ir to say you are not going to do something.

Tú no vas a escribir una carta.    → You 're not going to write a letter.

Ella no va a estudiar matemáticas.    → She is not going to study math.

Ellas no van a escuchar a la maestra.    → They are not going to listen to the teacher.
