5.4 The Preposition a
The preposition "a"
in Spanish usually means to or for.
(You encountered it when it means at when you learned time - La clase es a las tres de la tarde)
The "a" goes before direct objects that specify who a pronoun is referring to or to place emphasis in speech.
Let's revisit our previous examples:

Mi papá le da las flores a mi mamá. → a mi mamá = to my mom

Nosotros les damos el chocolate a mis abuelos. → a mis abuelos = to my grandparents

Yo te doy los juguetes a ti. → a ti = to you

When you use the expression a mà (me), there is an accent on the i. When you use the word mi (my) in an expression such as a mi mamá, there is no accent. |
