About the Author

Hola. Me llamo Juan. I’m so excited about my trip to Argentina. I have been reading about things I’ll need to do while there. One thing to remember about Argentina is that all of the seasons are reversed. When it is summer in Colombia (and in Canada), it is winter in Argentina.

Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, is mild in the fall (March to May) and spring (September to November) and can be pretty hot in the summer (December to February). Buenos Aires has so much to offer a tourist. You can attend museums, theaters and opera houses, take a walk to the center of Buenos Aires, the Plaza de Mayo, or through the Parque Lezama. I am looking forward to trying a “parrillada”, a steak prepared on a wood fire, salad and fried potatoes and to watch some Argentine tango dancers.
Patagonia is in the south of Argentina so the climate is colder. It is the ideal place to come for skiing during the months of June to October. I haven’t visited Patagonia yet, but I’ve heard about the impressive mountains and glaciers! And of course, los pinguinos!
It is a shame that I’ll be visiting Argentina during their winter since Mar del Plata has some amazing beaches. The best months to visit Mar del Plata are during Argentina’s summer, December to March. Tourism is very high during their summer months when millions of visitors come to stay at the seaside beach resorts.

Most Spanish-speaking countries have four seasons or cuatro estaciones. Let me teach you a few words in Spanish. The word la primavera means spring time. The Argentines love the spring because they can start up a game of fútbol! El verano means summer. Since the Argentine beaches are so beautiful, the summer is a great time to visit. Fall is called el otoño. Sports are still in high swing in the fall! The word for winter is el invierno.
