Verbos con cambios ... Cambios means changes... spelling changes.

Next unit, you will learn more about this category of verbs. We refer to them as 'Stem Changing Verbs' - because there is a spelling change in the stem (or root word) of the verbs. This lesson is just an introduction so that you can use them to talk about yourself.

Did you notice that all three of these infinitives have  different endings in the infinitive? This time it is not the endings that are important,
it is the stem of the verb:

Listen (and practice)  as you look at the words.  What is the recurring pattern you see when there are 2 verbs in the sentence?


  Jugar - to play           Yo juego al baloncesto en el invierno 

  Preferir - to prefer          Yo prefiero jugar los deportes en el verano  

  Poder - to be able to (can)         Yo puedo jugar bien al beísbol.
