Unit A: Money
Chapter 2 - Working with Money
Lesson 2: Pricing
Kristin works in a clothing store that is advertising, "Up to 20% off all fashions in the store." She is very excited to tell her friends about the store's promotion. Not all of her friends are excited to check out the big sale, even though the store has some really great clothes for both guys and girls.
Why do you think some of Kristin's friends are excited about the sale while others are not?
If the sale is, "Up to 20% off," does that mean all items in the store are reduced in price by the same amount? What other information would be useful to know about this store and its sale?
Stores managers (or owners) often use promotions to entice customers to shop in their store. Examples of promotions are: "beat the GST, "(the store will pay the GST), "buy one get one free, "receive a free item with purchase."
Smart merchants use promotions to bring customers to their stores and to develop a clientele for repeat business.
The Goal
Here are the things you will do in this lesson:
- review using percentages
- understand various sales promotions
- compare sales promotions
- work with percent increase and percent decrease
- calculate the final price, including sales tax
