Unit C: Measurement
Chapter 6 - Lines and Angles

Lesson 1 - Angles

Angles are present everywhere in our world. From games to airplanes and from art to architecture, angles are all around us. Our understanding of angles and how they work enables us to make machines and to build buildings. Watch the video of a building being built in South Korea that will have the appearance of being invisible, thanks to the creative use of angles.

The stealth bomber cannot easily be detected with normal radar because of the angles used in its design.

Angles are also used in many video games and in sports.

   The Goal

Here are the things you will do in this lesson:

  • Learn appropriate angle referents
  • Estimate the measure of angles based on referents
  • Accurately sketch angles
  • Construct, replicate, and bisect angles
  • Name angles based on their measure (size)
