Lesson 3: Surface Area - Nets

Visually, a net shows all of the surfaces of a 3D object. A net can be folded along its lines (seams) to form a 3D object. Some 3D objects have several possible nets.

EXAMPLE 1

Which of the following nets would not form a cube?

Solution

Folding along the dotted edges will form a cube.

Folding along the dotted edges will not form a cube. One square will overlap another.

Folding along the dotted edges will form a cube.

Folding along the dotted edges will form a cube.

EXAMPLE 2

Match each net with the correct 3D object.

Solution

Now, it is your turn! Complete the questions in your Chapter 7, Lesson 3 Practice Makes Perfect that refer to Nets.
