Example 1 |
Use the graph of \(y = f(x)\) to sketch \(y = \frac{1}{f(x)}\).

The graph of \(y = \frac{1}{f(x)}\) will intersect the graph of \(y = f(x)\) when \(f(x) = \pm 1\). This occurs at the points \((–2, 1)\) and \((4, –1)\). There will be a horizontal asymptote at \(y = 0\) and a vertical asymptote where \(y = f(x)\) crosses the \(x\)-axis.

Use the points of intersection and the asymptotes to guide your sketch.
