Why Study Literature?


One of the goals of studying literary texts of all sorts is to gain an understanding of human nature and the human condition. We study literary texts in order to better understand ourselves and others, think critically, and analyze how literature does what it does and achieves its purpose. There will be opportunities for you to explore what roles literature, poetry, plays, song lyrics, and other texts play in your life. As you study the literature in this course, you will need to take notes.
