Critical/Analytical Response to a Text

In your 1.3a and 1.3b short story analysis assignments, you reflected on the authorโ€™s use of literary devices, elements, and techniques. Some critical essays require you to focus on a text's literary elements and techniques. However, when approaching the essential question/question prompt, and there is a dynamic character involved (protagonist, antagonist), a better approach is to consider how the character has transformed throughout the text in relation to the question posed. For your next assignment, you'll take this approach.

You will be creating an outline focusing on this assignment topic: Explore how one of the Essential Questions triggers the main characterโ€™s transformation. You will go through the writing process of choosing your text and topic, brainstorming specific evidence to support your thesis, and planning. Your outline will be formatively assessed, and then you will make revisions before submitting the polished essay in Unit 2.
