The
Thesis (Your Main Idea, Your Road Map)
Before you begin writing your essay, it is imperative that you decide on what your purpose is for writing. This will form the basis of your thesis. A thesis usually consists of an opinion or position that you will use the essay to explain. Your thesis will express an opinion and the main reasons or support for that position.
Readers expect the thesis of an essay to:
- Connect appropriately with the purpose defined in the assignment
- Express the writer's belief or judgment about the topic
- Indicate significant support intended for the position
