Suffixes
A suffix is a group of letters added to the end of a word.
When you add a suffix to the end of a word, you change the meaning of the word. Here are some examples of suffixes and words on which they are used:
- ful - means full of in Latin (cupful, forgetful, plentiful, grateful etc.)
- able - means capable of in Latin (teachable, comfortable, controllable etc.)
- fy - means cause to be in Latin (beautify, liquefy etc.)
- less - means without in Latin (childless, friendless etc.)

Complete the activity sheet, Suffixes Have Meaning. On this sheet, you are given three suffixes and twelve root words.
- Pick five of the root words to add suffixes to.
- Write the root word and its meaning in the chart, followed the by the root word with the suffix and what the word means now.
- After you have written your five words, write what you think the three suffixes mean.

Save
How to save a file:
