Unit 1

What Does it Mean to Show Respect?

Activity

Using a Timeline

Another effective way to organize a biography is to write the events in the order they happened.

For example, if you were writing an autobiography (a biography about yourself), you wouldn't write about playing soccer before you wrote about learning to walk. You need to keep things in the order they happened.

A biography also picks important events to talk about.

Here are some examples of events that would be included in a biography:

  • when the person was born
  • where they lived
  • where the person went to school and worked
  • when they died (if the person is not still alive)

Choose a friend, family member, or someone you know to write a short biography about. Use the Biographical Timeline to record the information. A sample is provided.
